Location and general description of property.—The railroad of the East St. Louis Junction Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam switching railroad, located in National Stock Yards and East St. Louis, Ill. The carrier owns 3.672 miles of main track and 22.411 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 26.083 miles of all tracks wholly owned and used, exclusive of the land and grading which are leased from The St. Louis National Stock Yards. In addition, the carrier jointly owns and uses with other companies 0.056 undivided mile of yard tracks and sidings, its portion thereof, based on ownership, being 0.028 mile.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated October 21, 1918, under the general laws of the State of Illinois, for the purpose of constructing a railroad from the north line of Fourth Street in that part of the United States survey No. 777, designated as lot 50 of the Commons of Cahokia, to the southerly line of the county road in lot B of a subdivision of United States survey No. 627, known as National Stock Yards division, all in St. Clair County, Ill.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The wholly owned mileage of the carrier, 3.672 miles of main track and 22.411 miles of yard tracks and sidings at National Stock Yards and East St. Louis, Ill., was acquired by purchase, October 28, 1918, from The St. Louis National Stock Yards. The records reviewed indicate that this property was constructed in 1872. Details with respect to the acquisition and construction of 0.035 mile of yard tracks and sidings jointly owned with the Terminal Railroad of East St. Louis and 0.021 mile of yard tracks and sidings jointly owned with Morris & Company, all at East St. Louis, Ill., have not been ascertained. There is a difference of 0.272 mile between the main-track mileage reported by the carrier, 3.4 miles, and that inventoried as of date of valuation, 3.672 miles.
