Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 16:58 on 3 July 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Current DYK[edit]

Watamou Lamien[edit]

The hook was changed after DYK was approved, whereby ROC was changed to OMR. That's factually incorrect, since Watamou Lamien was the link between PCRV and ROC. Once ROC had morphed into OMR, the relationship between OMR and PCRV had become very hostile and Lamien had been expelled from PCRV and formed a new group. I'd ask that the original hook from the DYK nomination by used, see Template:Did you know nominations/Watamou Lamien. --Soman (talk) 12:18, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

American Colossus[edit]

  • ... that American Colossus is a biography of a man who was "the most famous sportsman in the world" and "the most forgotten great athlete in American history"?

The topic here is a book. The quotations are not attributed and one of them is from the author of the book and so is promotional hype rather than being independent and reliable. The other quote comes from a tennis correspondent who will likewise be biased in favour of that sport. These are not definite facts, they are opinions. See WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV, MOS:PUFFERY and WP:SUBJECTIVE. Andrew🐉(talk) 08:49, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adnan al-Bursh[edit]

Adnan al-Bursh: "an" should probably be in the link (an Israeli prison) because it's referring to a specific prison.:Jay8g [VTE] 06:10, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article has duplicate information and is on Israel/Palestine. I don't think his death would have been posted via ITN so it needs more scrutiny if it is going through the easier DYK route. Secretlondon (talk) 12:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Next DYK[edit]

Translations of The Lord of the Rings is a redirect caused by a recent move. Just in case this destabilises, I propose removing the link entirely.--Launchballer 13:10, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
