Happy New Year!
Hey there, East718! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)

Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh.

Best wishes, neuro(talk) 00:47, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure {{BASEPAGENAME}} will appreciate the thought. :P east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!

Dear East718,

Wishing you a happy new year, and very best wishes for 2009. Whether we were friends or not in the past year, I hope 2009 will be better for us both.

Kind regards,

Majorly talk 21:04, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And a belated season's greetings to you too, Majorly. I hope that you've put the events of eleven months past behind us and look forward to collaborating with you on an article or something. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have changed the logo from gif to png, but from memory the name 'AIR RHODESIA' was always in a medium blue, not red.Tnuag (talk) 02:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Air Rhodesia is defunct, so I have no idea where to get a reliable source that discusses the logo. If you can find a blue logo and a source that verifies its existence, just upload it over the image. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WeaverAndrew

You deleted User:WeaverAndrew, but didn't delete User talk:WeaverAndrew. Did you mean to delete User talk:WeaverAndrew? Based on the reason you stated for your deletion, I assume you were intending to delete the user talkpage. -- IRP 14:03, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The version of the talkpage that my deletion bot came across ([1]) was not eligible for deletion as it wasn't in CAT:TEMP. Now that the page is blank, one of the other CAT:TEMP bots should come along and delete it soon. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images from The Outer Limits episodes

Hello, East718!

At the period from 13 to 14th of November, 2008, you did deleted a lot of images from The Outer Limits episodes articles [2] [3] (CSD I5: Non-free image that was not used for more than seven days).

The pictures became "non-used" due to vandalism of User:Sgeureka, who did deleted these films without any discussing. Now all pages of these films are restored — see Category:The_Outer_Limits_episodes and its subcategories (1963 TV series episodes and 1995 TV series episodes). Would you like to restore all the pictures from The Outer Limits films now?

Here is the examples: File:Under the bed.jpg, File:The Choice.jpg, File:Valerie 23.jpg, File:Blood Brothers.jpg, File:The Outer Limits - The Deprogrammers.jpg, File:The Outer Limits - The Camp.jpg, File:Corner of the Eye.jpg, File:Sand Kings.jpg, File:Virtual Future.jpg, File:Outer limits quality of mercy.jpg, File:Second Soul.jpg, File:White Light Fever.jpg I am not sure, but probably it is not a full list. Thank You.

Happy New Year & Best Regards. Krasss (talk) 23:37, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay. I disagree with your assessment of those edits as vandalism, but have restored all those images. Just make sure that they're used in an article sometime over the next week. Let me know or find any other admin if there are more images that need undeletion. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of File:ChuckLiddell.png

A tag has been placed on File:ChuckLiddell.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:File:ChuckLiddell.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. BlueAg09 (Talk) 08:42, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of redundant image?

You speedily deleted an image of an iPod as follows. 00:21, 1 April 2008 East718 (Talk | contribs) deleted "File:Click wheel.png" ‎ (csd i1)

Could you post a link to the duplicate file please, or restore the image? (I see it on Commons but CSD I1 does not apply to Commons files.)

--InfantGorilla (talk) 10:10, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image got vectorized and to File:Ipodwheelwiki.svg, which then later got moved to Commons. Let me know if you'd like the enwiki PNG or enwiki SVG back. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I thought and hoped. I'll ask you for a restore if it gets deleted from Commons. Deletion requests can take weeks there. --InfantGorilla (talk) 20:05, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DABS and 718 Bot

Hello, East718;

Could you set up 718 Bot to exclude Category:Birds and its descendant categories from WP:DABS, when you get some time? Thank you! J. Spencer (talk) 23:00, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I can't log into the computer the bot's running on -- I lost my login details in an incident of catastrophic data loss. I can do one of two things though -- leave the bot running with Category:Birds being erroneously included in the updates, or revert WP:DABS to the last good version and fully protect it, which will also stop any updates. Let me know how you'd like to proceed. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Probably best to lock it, as it can still be useful to track changes to articles. WP:DABS hasn't picked up the category addition yet from the transcluded page (I knew about the change because I'd been using the transcluded page to check for articles being added to various dinosaur categories); the last revision to the transcluded page before the bird category was added as a subcategory of coelurosaurs was the third of the month. Thank you! J. Spencer (talk) 02:19, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you reverted the main wp:dabs page already, sorry I haven't been around. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

718 Bot

Hi East718. I have left this message for User:Carnildo: Would you see if you can get your bot to recognise when an image has had a change. File:SIBAlogo.gif was changed to File:SIBAlogo.png. Perhaps you can get in touch with User:East718. That user is running the bot which is changing the images from gif to png. I'll also leave a note on East718's talkpage regarding this.

When your bot changes a file it makes the old file an orphan, and then Carnildo's bot goes round telling people that the old file is orphaned and will be deleted - when in fact the file is still in place on the article. There is nothing for the original uploader to do, and the notice simply creates unneeded work. Is there a way you two can get together to prevent these notices going out? Regards SilkTork *YES! 18:29, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can definitely work something out with Carnildo. I was under the impression that BJBot (talk · contribs) was the only bot that tagged orphaned fairuse images, and I've already made arrangements with its owner to not bother people about images converted to PNG. Thanks for the heads-up! east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Main page bot

Hi, you're probably enjoying a nice break, hope it's going well. When you get back, any chance of action on Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Main page protection robot? It would be really helpful. :) rootology (C)(T) 00:21, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Involuntary break's going great, thanks for the thoughts. This is what the bot's home looks like now, so it's unlikely that I can get it back up soon. :( I'll arrange to have the bot request indefinitely shelved. east718 | talk | 19:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, that seriously sucks. Would you be willing to give the code to another bot operator, that can pick it up as a project...? rootology (C)(T) 15:04, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is the source code. It was linked on the page (Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Main page protection robot). Best regards, --Kanonkas :  Talk  15:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That code has several show-stopping bugs. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: 718 Bot

Hello, East718. You have new messages at East718's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi - you put this on my talkpage. I followed the link, but it doesn't seem related to me. Would you be able to write to me? You can copy and paste onto my talk page, and I'll do the same for you if you wish to keep the talk on one page. I do remember writing to you regarding some notice about an image - I assume it's related to that - but your talkpage is not easy to navigate. Have you considered archiving? The purpose of archiving is mainly to help other users navigate your talkpage, so it's seen as a friendly, helpful thing to do. But the decision is yours! SilkTork *YES! 19:31, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, sorry about that flub - it looks like I have multiple threads titled "718 Bot" on my talkpage. Anyway, I was responding to an inquiry from you about being wrongly bothered by bot messages when a fairuse image you upload is converted to PNG - I agree that this shouldn't happen. This was my reply - "I can definitely work something out with Carnildo. I was under the impression that BJBot (talk · contribs) was the only bot that tagged orphaned fairuse images, and I've already made arrangements with its owner to not bother people about images converted to PNG. Thanks for the heads-up!" east718 | talk | 19:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's cool. Thanks for letting me know. And that's the first time I've experienced one of those talkback things - I've seen them around and wondered about them. I'm not sure I'm that keen on them after this experience! Regards SilkTork *YES! 19:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you just deleted this image because: Image lacking sources or licensing information for more than seven days

However, the image had a valid fair use rationale containing this information. I'd be grateful if you could restore the image, or elucidate me as to why it should have been deleted. Thanks, Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 05:21, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the image. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 14:03, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image is involved in a content dispute, and should not have been deleted until that was resolved, as the image was only orphaned because of the rampant deleter. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 22:10, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the image. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

KOFY-TV logos

Hello. i'm just wondering if you would be able and willing to restore these images below. I would post the appropriate copyright and fair-use tags on each image if you did. Thank you.

KBWB's 1980s logo when known as KTZO KBWB's pre-1998 logo when known as KOFY KBWB's 1998 KOFY logo KBWB's logo, used from September 14, 1998 when KOFY became KBWB until September of 2002. KBWB's last WB20 logo, from September of 2002-January 2006. Transitional KBWB "TV 20" logo, from January-late August 2006. RingtailedFoxTalkContribs 21:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Logo: WNYE FM

Hi East, you've deleted File:Wnye fm logo.gif after an editor replaced the use of that image in the WNYE (FM) article by a PNG version. In the meantime that image has also been deleted for a different reason by User:Maxim, leaving the article with no logo of the radio station. According to Wikipedia:Logos I guess the use of the logo in WP should be okay. Could you work with Maxim to restore either version of the logo? I'll point him to this discussion. Thanks, --EnOreg (talk) 15:38, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it's taken care of already. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:ELISION Ensemble Organisation logo 3.png

Hi, you have apparently deleted this logo file. It's for an article that's in prep on my user space about that organisation (under fair use), but it's taken longer to get ready than expected. Can you please undelete it for me? I fear if I try an upload it again something won't let me. Elision1986 (talk) 07:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, nonfree images aren't permitted in userspace. When I'm working on drafts, I find it helpful for myself to replace all nonfree images with free ones of similar dimensions (see user:east718/PE for an example). Once your draft is complete, just let any administrator know and we'll restore the image for you. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems you put this file in the deletion log for lack of copyright or licensing information. Well, i created the file to use in wikipedia. Kanye West

Hey, you protected Kanye West in December of 2007. I was going to request it for unprotection, but it said at the top to ask the admin who protected it first, so here I am. It's been over a year and I was under the impression protection is a temporary fix to curb vandalism so I think Kanye West should be unprotected. Thanks. Wikipediarules2221 22:31, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotection is also used permanently for articles that experience constant violations of WP:BLP from anonymous/new users. Go for it though, I'll ask a couple admins to keep an eye on the article. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Likely the vandalism will continue, but watching. --Kanonkas :  Talk  11:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rangeblock collateral damage?

See this rangeblock you placed and User talk:Fridolin who appears to have been caught by it. Could you look into this? I have no idea what led to the rangeblock, so I contacted you directly about it. If the user has been innocently caught, they may need an IPexempt tag, but I will leave that to you as you likely know much more about blocks you instituted. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 12:42, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorted this one out. east718 | talk | 06:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me

Hi Buddy I have a kind request to you that can you please tell me how to Give a Copyright explanation or can i use the pictures which i have downloaded from the internet to upload them on articles for the progress of that article. Please reply me as soon as possible with suitable detail and Instructions. I will be very thankful to you for this act of kindness. Regards!

No, you can't just upload images that you find on the internet. You can upload images from the "internet" if it's under fair use, but be careful that it complies with the non-free content criteria. You may find: non-free content, image use policy, and copyrights helpful. Feel free to reply back if you didn't understand that. Images can be a hard area. Best regards, --Kanonkas :  Talk  12:08, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who said that it was not being used? It was being used in List of Samurai Warriors characters, and it was about to be used in Oda Nobunaga in fiction. I am not angry; I just do not understand why it was deleted. The fair-use rationale was proper, and it was used in an article for a month. -BlueCaper (talk) 00:56, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In rare cases, the software the powers Wikipedia will falsely report a file as being orphaned when it really isn't (there's no way around this). I've restored that image. east718 | talk | 17:35, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Thanks, east718! There have been other problems with the software as well, including occasional inaccessability. Could you please restore the other ones as well, because they were as in use as File:NobunagaSW.jpg. -BlueCaper (talk) 21:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:TheWireS4.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:TheWireS4.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An image you deleted

I am trying to improve and complete this page and part of that job is finding suitable images for the templates for each county. Please restore the perfectly suitable image File:Worcestershire arms.jpg that you deleted citing "‎CSD I5: Non-free image that was not used for more than seven days". Hopefully you'll find the image is free for the reasons I carefully entered in the file's description. However, I'm relatively new to this, and if you could explain a way of me providing images for the templates in questions that doesn't lead to them being repeatedly deleted, I would be more than happy to take it onboard. RatnimSnave (talk) 10:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any claim by you on the file page that the image is free, but I've restored it anyway. Keep in mind that you'll have to use it in articles only, as non-free media isn't permitted in the category namespace. east718 | talk | 17:35, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey east and welcome back. Hopefully you get your computer fixed if you havn't already done so :) I saw you changing back "Pride" to "PRIDE" on Fedor's article after I changed it yesterday to comply with WP:MOSTM. Am I missing something? Thanks! --aktsu (t / c) 18:35, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing missed here is the memo regarding this that I threw away. :) I'm assuming this was discussed somewhere like wp:mma project talk? There's definitely lots of articles that will need automated replacing from "PRIDE" -> "Pride", as well as pagemoves for all the cards' pages. east718 | talk | 21:43, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We've already moved the articles and I made a script to automatically change PRIDE->Pride along with DREAM, SHOOTO, DEEP etc, so we're getting there :) --aktsu (t / c) 01:10, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed some DEEP/ZST pages laying around in the stylized form. special:allpages or special:prefixindex may be useful for finding more pages which have gone unnoticed so far. As an aside, what's up with all the shouting in Japanese and Korean promotions' names? ("FieLDS K-1 WORLD MAX!!" anyone?) If it's a cultural thing instead of just a bad stylistic trend, I think we might need to revisit the discussion where these conventions were decided on. east718 | talk | 00:03, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
