Orphaned non-free image File:Christopher pike.jpg

⚠
Thanks for uploading File:Christopher pike.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:34, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tempate

Hi とある白い猫. Thank you for your interest in contributing to Wikipedia, a free-content encyclopedia project operated by the Wikimedia Foundation with the primary scope of providing high quality encyclopedic information (including images and media). Submissions that are non-free, of low quality, or otherwise unsuitable may be subject to deletion.

One or more of your recent contributions has been identified as a possible image not in Wikipedia's scope. Wikipedia has guidelines on offensive material, and Wikimedia Commons (which has guidelines on nudity) already has a large number of photos of genitalia, specifically the male reproductive system and the penis.

If you have objections to the proposed deletion of your image(s), please see the links to the relevant deletion discussion(s) (listed above or below this message box). This message is not intended to be taken personally. Thank you for your understanding. -- とある白い猫 (talk) 17:17, Friday, February 3, 2017 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Serial Experiments Lain DVD Vol 00.png

Thanks for uploading File:Serial Experiments Lain DVD Vol 00.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 21:39, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CIA World Factbook (for bot)

A bot can be utilized to correct the directory change of the CIA World Factbook.

Twillisjr (talk) 20:53, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The suggestions were made for the following:

  • Use: "COUNTRY NAME". The World Factbook (2024 ed.). Central Intelligence Agency. (See Code)
  • Helpful Template Link 1: Template:CIA World Factbook
  • Helpful Template Link 2: Template:CIA World Factbook link

Twillisjr (talk) 21:04, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Twillisjr: As per your request the bot processed CIA World Factbook urls query (actual list) that lists all pages using the old/broken URL. Re-run of the query reveals 7 continued uses I will investigate. At a glance they seem to be protected pages.
In the next step, I will process CIA World Factbook urls in articles query which lists all articles that use the new URL such that they benefit the templates you suggested. This will take a considerable amount of time since some of the listed pages already use the template or use other templates such as citation templates.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, とある白い猫. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects to redirects-with-possibilities

Hi! I recently created some redirects with possibilities containing diacritics (Småland (cattle), Skåne (cattle), Herrgård), and then created redirects to them without those diacritics to make them easier to find. Your bot has changed those diacritic-free pages to redirect directly to the destination article. That seems to go directly against the advice given at Category:Redirects with possibilities: "Do not retarget links to these redirects directly to the article to which they redirect". Could you get the bot to ignore redirects of this particular type in future? Obviously I won't bother changing the pages back until that's been done. Many thanks for all your useful work, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:41, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: Hello, the bot processes Special:Doubleredirects which is when a redirect points to a redirect. My suggestion would be to use soft redirects which would not appear on the special page if you want to keep it in redirect form. Another possibility is to create stub articles if you think the topic has enough content for an expansion. Thirdly creating sections in the main article for the individual breed and redirecting to those sections specifically is also an option. The last one I mentioned would probably be the easiest and my preferred option. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 11:45, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Category:TempCatForname_trans

Hi. Could you take a look at my question at Template talk:Infobox eSports player? Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 01:13, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul 012: I am a bit puzzled why you asked me this question. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 19:37, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I ask because it appears that you added the category to the template in this edit. --Paul_012 (talk) 04:32, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul 012: I probably created it for temporary usage and then forgot about it. Probably to check a parameter. I think it can be removed and speedy deleted. A nomination is an overkill. Do you need bot help to remove it from individual pages? -- A Certain White Cat chi? 21:27, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. It only appears to be referred to via the template, so no bot work is needed. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:47, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you! ツ

Dear fellow editor,
Thank you so much for uploading a photo of Clive Barda into Wikipedia recently, and for adding it to the article's Infobox; your helpful assistance has now made the article complete and I am very grateful to you.
With kind regards;

December

So, per your edit comment of Nov 26: -"Sharon Carpenter on Olive Coco TV.jpg" removing the file temporarily per OTRS request. A new file will be posted in it's place. - how long is "temporarily", and when is the new file to be posted? It has been a few days, and I can't find such a new file either in the article or in Wikimedia Commons. --GRuban (talk) 18:18, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GRuban: I am working towards getting the rights released in OTRS. Once I have that sorted I will put the image in. OTRS of course does not have editorial priority but I kindly ask for a little more time. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 19:01, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
You're trading emails with Sharon Carpenter, or her agent, and she/they wants to release an image but is having trouble crossing the ts and dotting the is? Or something else? --GRuban (talk) 20:29, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban: Something like that. You can appreciate why I cannot detail my response here. OTRS tickets aren't always straightforward despite the efforts of both sides. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 11:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
? Any chance of putting back the existing image while your negotiations continue? --GRuban (talk) 19:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban: I cannot in any way prevent you from re-inserting the file. As I stated OTRS does not have editorial priority. Mind that the other party in OTRS specifically asked to remove the file. I will send them another email reflecting this discussion. I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 21:00, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Sure, but it's not an issue of physically preventing me, it's more in the nature of a consultation. I would completely prefer an equally good image that the article subject also likes; but I think the image we have is far better than nothing, so if you think negotiations have stalled, I'd like to put it back. But if you think there is a reasonable chance of getting one in the near future, I can give it more time. (I admit, I've done this "please release an image to replace one you don't like" dance myself. It took years.) --GRuban (talk) 23:05, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban: Thank you for your understanding. It is always uncomfortable for me to do the dance in this manner. There is willingness mind you but it is moving slowly. I have not been rejected either. I am trying not to push too hard and get everything regards to licensing correct so that issue is closed and not challenged in the future. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 14:54, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Account creation

Hello とある白い猫,

Another CheckUser brought something to my attention that we find to be rather puzzling. Why did you create an account with an abusive username? Oshwah is perfectly capable of handling troll accounts himself, so I'm at a loss to come up with an explanation for your action. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 21:31, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@DoRD: Huh? We were discussing it on IRC. No harm done. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 23:07, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I scrolled back to that conversation, but I have to disagree that such accounts are regularly created to prevent impersonation. I don't know how things work elsewhere, but that is not a practice here, particularly with abusive account names. —DoRD (talk) 23:44, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@DoRD: It is something we did regularly on this wiki in the past. Since creator and creation reason is well known, it isn't much of an issue. I did notice the confusion afterwards so this isn't something I will do regularly. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 12:26, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
It was done with similar names, e.g. Oshwha, but the software should prevent that now. I don't recall it ever being done with abusive names, so please let that one be the last. Thanks. —DoRD (talk) 15:25, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@DoRD: I do not agree with that, creating usernames to prevent trolls from creating them isn't banned. If anything the software should not have allowed it. I did not expect to be successful to be honest. That is the bigger issue here. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 18:57, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
As one of the two other CheckUsers who became involved in this issue, I agree with DoRD. You shouldn't do this again.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:17, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@DoRD: @Bbb23: You cannot quite pull rank on me though I imagine your intention was not to intimidate. As I stated earlier, I am aware of the confusion my action has caused. If it wasn't self evident, I am not happy with how issues developed. It is not like I habitually create such accounts. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 21:07, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean by pulling rank, and I don't see any attempt at intimidation. We're just trying to make sure that this doesn't happen in the future. Even Oshwah agrees that it's a bad idea, and another admin pointed out in that IRC discussion that this does run afoul of the username policy. —DoRD (talk) 21:20, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
