The Gymnasium im PAMINA-Schulzentrum Herxheim (Anglicisation: Gymnasium in the PAMINA-school center Herxheim) is a school in Herxheim in the District of Südliche Weinstraße in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is named after the Eurodistrict PAMINA.

History[edit]

Das Gymnasium was founded in 1995. Its first principal was Lothar Bade.[1] He was succeeded by Simon Lietzmann on February 1, 2016. At the gymnasium, around 850 students are taught by almost 75 teachers.

Profile[edit]

The profile of the gymnasium is characterized by its four focal areas of Europe, STEM, sport and culture. These four focal points offer students the opportunity, depending on their own interests, to take part in a large number of projects, working groups, competitions, cooperations with companies, universities and other institutions and in many other teaching and non-teaching activities.[2]

Science-Fair[edit]

Since 2014, the gymnasium in the PAMINA school center in Herxheim has been the first school in Rhineland-Palatinate to organize an in-school science fair, which takes place under the patronage of physicochemist Michael Buback.[3] It begins with the registration phase, in which individual information events and a science fair excursion day take place. As soon as the students have registered with a project, the work phase begins and continues until the end of the school year. The highlight of the Science Fair year is the science festival at the end of the school year at the University of Landau, where the projects are presented to the public and an expert jury. The juries determine the best projects and honor them. The prizes are awarded in the categories "people & society" as well as "nature & technology" for the upper and middle level. The motto of the Science Fair 2016 is "Digital World".[4]
