Khemme (En: kɛm; Fr: xam ) is an island nation on the Khemme Archipelago, in the central Pacific Ocean. It lies approximately equidistant from Japan, the Philippines, and Hawaii. It is a socialist republic and is the second-wealthiest country in the world.

The archipelago received its first human settlement in the first few centuries AD. It had limited contact with other regional peoples until Portuguese contact in 1553, with a colony established on the island of Saint-Jean two years later in June 1555. A French expedition in 1570 established a small settlement in the south of the island of Khemme. The Portuguese colony expanded quickly, but as the Portuguese Empire declined, French influence on the archipelago increased, culiminating in the Franco-Portuguese War in 1658 and the establishment of a French colony on the archipelago in 1698. The colony quickly became regionally powerful and the most important French colony after Quebec. But French control became tenuous as France underwent domestic troubles and the British navy expanded in influence througout the world. With Quebec under seige, but not wanting to give up its empire, France ceded most of its territories to Britain with the agreement that Britain would allow it to keep Khemme.

Due to its importance to the French empire, and for political purposes under Napoleon, Khemme received substantial benefits in exchange for its loyalty to France. This meant there was very little motion towards independence until 20th century and the rise of the Socialist Party of Khemme. During World War II, Khemme played a key role in the Allied effort in the Pacific Theatre, playing host to two major American military installations at Forts Washington and Jefferson. After the war, the Socialist Party leveraged this political power to broker a deal for nominal independence in 1952. However, much of the country, especially that led by the Communist Party of Khemme, remained dissatisfied with formal independence, especially as Khemme became a central bulwark of maintaining French and American imperial control in Southeast Asia. The Khemme Revolution in 1971 led to the establishment of the socialist republic which exists today.

Due in part to its phased colonization and especially its location, Khemme is an extremely diverse and cosmopolitan country. During the rein of the Socialist Party, and especially during World War II, it became one of the world's most industrialized countries. Both of these factors led to a shift in the world communist movement, which eventually culiminated in the establishment of the Secretariat of the Fifth International in Labae, with the still-troubled Soviet Union, China, and a number of other countries as full members, and a number more, especially from Latin America, as observing members. This bloc of countries maintains a tense and often hostile relationship with what it deems the "Imperialist bloc" (including especially the United States), but with the decline of nuclear tensions from their peak in the 1950s and 1960s, this relationship has remained nonetheless peaceful.
