I am Alicia Marty, a Research Technician II in the Queller/Strassmann lab at Washington University in St. Louis. I have a Master's degree in Biology from University of Missouri- St. Louis, with a focus on Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics. My thesis research was on the behavior and endocrinology of Black and White Ruffed Lemurs (Varecia variegata). Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Prior to becoming a Research Technician, I was a zookeeper for 5 years - working directly with primates for the majority of the time. I have great knowledge and interest in zoo-based conservation programs and animal welfare.

I am Permaculture Design Certified and am passionate about growing food and living sustainably. My personal interests include reducing energy use and waste, improving our food system by growing and buying food locally, and small-scale carbon sequestration through soil improvement and plant propagation. I am constantly researching permaculture design techniques, plant uses and details, and other ways to cooperate with nature.
