I always took the pipe cleaner sequence to be a caricature of Al Jolson in The Jazz Singer - the white pipe cleaner character looks around before furtively putting his head in the pipe soot to emerge with the traditional "blackface" makeup. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyclone77 (talk • contribs) 22:54, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
