Vimont → Vimont, France
Vimont, Quebec → Vimont

These two articles should be moved, and Vimont exchanged, because primary usage is the place in Canada, not the one in France. The one in Quebec has a much larger population, and is part of an English speaking environment (Greater Montreal).

Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.

Oppose - move Vimont to Vimont, Calvados and make Vimont a disambiguation page. According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (France & French-related)#Cities & communes, geographical names should be disambiguated by the department. This appears to be the common practice in e.g. Category:Communes_of_Calvados. According to Wikipedia hits [[1]], [[2]] both sites receive only a small number of hits; although the Quebec article receives more hits, not sufficiently in my opinion to deserve primary topic status. --Rogerb67 (talk) 19:52, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd note, as well, that the naming convention spelled out at WP:CANSTYLE is that any level of settlement below cities needs to have a unique name to qualify for a move to the undisambiguated title — at this level, importance is simply too subjective, too prone to circular "mine is more important than yours because I've heard of mine" debates. Canadians are more likely to know the one in Montreal while Europeans are more likely to know the one in Calvados, so it's not easy to assert that one is clearly more important than the other. I think the "French" in French wikipedia concerns language rather than country, as does "English" in English Wikipedia. Thus the above assertion applies as much to the Vimont in the predominantly French-speaking Quebec as to the one in France. --Rogerb67 (talk) 20:56, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
