What about tribal entities as organized forms of local government? They have authority to provide decisions on a number of local issues whereas the state may be limited in their scope and actual decision making processes on the ground. Let's not dismiss the importance of tribal organizations in the unorganized boroughs! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.145.240.99 (talk) 01:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Unique among states

"Unique among the United States, Alaska is not entirely subdivided into organized county equivalents." Though the unorganized borough itself is unique, I don't think that statement is entirely factual as some states have independent cities that aren't part of a county or county equivalent (39 in Virginia, plus Baltimore, St. Louis, and Carson City). I think the idea is that independent cities are themselves county equivalents. SchnitteUK (talk) 07:18, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
