I've deleted the following text: "At the time of its closing, one of its wings had never seen service." This had been accompanied by the following reference: http://books.google.com/books?id=vDSva95sIKEC&pg=PA154. From the reference, I believe that one of the wings of the new regional hospital complex, not the old Saint John General Hospital, hadn't been used since it was opened. Closure Innacuracy[edit]

I was born in this hospital, and at least one relative worked there. It closed just a few short years after I was born.

The part about it's closure is lacking some important information. Obviously I was way too young to have first hand knowledge of it's closure, but many people that were adults at the time, including my relative that worked there, have told me the stories countless times..

There was a fire that forced an evacuation and immediate closure in about 1982, (as the existing text notes.) There was already a brand new hospital built and soon to open anyway, so there was little incentive to repair the fire damage. The building just sat there without repair for many, many years until finally it was deemed so unsafe it needed to be demolished as already noted.

You can find plenty of articles about the fire, I'm sure. My relative recounted the events of that day to me, in particular because she was there working that day and helped evacuate patients. 159.2.194.228 (talk) 16:56, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
