Dispute over the neutrality of this article[edit]
I've just tagged this article with the {{POV}}, {{peacock}}, and {{unencyclopedic}} templates. It is not an encyclopedia article. It falls much more within the domain of a self-advertisement. Many of its claims are entirely subjective. It does not offer its documentation (either the article itself or its quotations) from an objective, fair point of view. Most of the heart of its subject material is scientifically unverified or unverifiable, and is irrelevant to the ordinary reader looking for an overview of this composer, not an overview of how this composer wishes to portray himself. Furthermore, the average reader, and the average listener, will be more interested in the music than the transcendentalism. (Music, being entirely subjective, cannot necessarily communicate specific emotions, let alone specific belief systems.)
Most importantly of all, according to the article history, the entire article was created in one go (on October 10th). This is not a collaborative work. Nothing wrong with that in the general sense, of course, but in this case it points clearly to a biased individual with a biased point of view.
I don't know anything about Rabinovitch-Barakovsky (though I certainly haven't heard of him as a founder of the Minimalist movement, and I'm a composition student myself), or I would edit the article myself. I do plan to ask my faculty about him, though. In the meantime, if anybody knows anything objective, verifiable, useful, and appropriate for an encyclopedia about this composer, get Wikiing! — The Realms of Gold (talk) 15:31, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Update: A friend of mine here at school has informed me that there may be some copyright infringement going on here: some of the text may be from liner notes written by Brenno Boccadoro, a professor at the Conservatory in Geneva. He and I are just beginning to unravel the mystery; the relevant page he sent me is here. Feel free to look into it yourself — I'm certainly no authority on any of this.
Also, I've been having fun on facebook with the group dedicated to this guy. After voicing my incredulity at the literature — the facebook group is a shortened version of this article's text — they sent me a message, deleted my discussion topic and wall post, and blocked me from joining the group. — The Realms of Gold (talk) 06:01, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Second update: The user Smorzandi has removed the POV template twice from his article. The template clearly states that it should not be removed until the dispute is resolved, and it will not be resolved while I'm still seeing this "spiritual quest" stuff on here. When I have a minute, I'm going to cut this article down myself -- or maybe just request a redirect to Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky, a much shorter article.
