Given name?[edit]

In some major Indian subcultures, what appears to Westerners to be a surname is simply the given name of a parent. Perhaps that makes it a given name in either position, or a surname in 2nd position, or just a name and neither surname nor given name. If it turns out to matter on the accompanying list, it may be worth seeing how other Indian names are treated before the edit-/split-/rename-/retag-war gets under way.
