I'm wrestling with the most difficult and problematic part of my family history trying to reconcile conflicting information about my American-born Peter Amiel. According to a fellow officer John Mayrant, Peter had served on the South Carolina as first lieutenant under Gillon and had previously been appointed secretary to John Paul Jones by John Adams.
