The Name WINTOUR[edit]
The name WINTOUR comes from the Welsh Gwyn Tour—a white tower. It was always spelled Wintour by Robert and Thomas Wintour and that is how we know that some of their signatures in documents concerning the Gunpowder Plot were falsified by the Protestant government. The name Wintour has nothing to do with the common surname Winter, and was never so spelled by the Wintour family.
Per Antonia Fraser: Faith and Treason. The Story of the Gunpowder Plot. NY, Doubleday, 1996.
