October 2016[edit]

I am editing this page as part of a class project https://en.luquay.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/University_of_Mississippi/Writing_with_Wikipedia_(Fall_2016).Boulder19952 (talk) 17:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I created this page because I saw that pages were dedicated to some of the CBR300R's competitors.Boulder19952 (talk) 17:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The page is relevant to individuals interested in sub-400cc displacement sport bikes, such as the Ninja 300, Ninja 250, Yamaha r3, CBR300r and CBR 250r.Boulder19952 (talk) 17:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I believe my edits are significant to the discourse community involving those individuals that are interested in the entry-level sport bike consumer market.Boulder19952 (talk) 17:02, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There's lots of helpful advice on motorcycling articles at WP:MC-MOS and at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling/Conventions. I would carefully review these guidelines, and take a look at the Wikipedia Policies that they are based on. Keep in mind that a motorcycle or a car is a manufactured product, no different than a ballpoint pen or can of soup. They have no special status requiring us to make a new article for each model. The notability guidelines on products cover this.

Wikipedia doesn't care at all about making sure each company's product gets equal treatment. If we have an article on one motorcycle but not another, it's mainly due to what our sources say, not what the manufacturers do. The policy What Wikipedia is not is a very important guide; it explains that an encyclopedia is not a shopping guide or product catalog, nor a how-to on anything. Our goal is not to help a motorcycle buyer pick the best bike, and we are not trying to make sure we give equal treatment to each product choice.

In the case of the CBR250 and 300, we have a bike whose power was increased slightly by increasing the displacement. If they increased the power by altering the valvetrain a bit, or adjusting the the ECU programming, we wouldn't immediately create a whole new article just because the power went up. Giving the model a slightly different name is not a reason for a new article. From the point of view of someone who doesn't know much about these bikes, it is much more helpful to read the whole story, which begins with the CBR250R and progresses to the CBR300R. Sub-models, like the CB300F, where they take the same bike and leave off the bodywork, belong in the same article too.

Take a look at KTM 390 series. Would someone who knew nothing about these bikes be better off if we had one page on the 390 Duke and a different page on the RC390? Honda CB900F is another example of two versions of the same bike separated by years, but the story makes more sense when you read first about the early version and next about the later one. Kawasaki triple is another good example. We do have separate articles on each of the Kawasaki triples, but they're not very good, and each one is lacking in context. Like walking into a theater in the middle of a movie.

We can still keep information on the 300R, but I think it belongs on the same article as the 250R. We will probably also want to think of a new name for that, instead of Honda CBR250R it should be something like Honda CBR250/300R series. A similar merge of the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and 300 articles should probably be done.

We have all the time in the world, so there's no hurry on merging articles. You should continue working on this 300R material here. I would remove some content that is out of scope, like the price, and put an introductory section above the first section header. See the Manual of Style and Writing better articles as well.

You can ask questions here, and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling. Lots of other are happy to assist you. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:53, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing my article Dennis. I will continue to revise the page and consider merging it with the CBR250R page. When comparing my article to other articles I noticed that my page lacked a section discussing the different generations of motorcycle models within the Honda CBR motorcycle series. For example, when referencing the Kawasaki Ninja 250r page I noticed that it had each generation model listed under independent sections. I think this might be a good idea to consider when referencing that the CBR300R/F models are the newest generation in the CBR Series since the 2014 Honda CBR250r.Boulder19952 (talk) 14:13, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
