Is it accurate to talk about Hispanics/Latinos in this context?[edit]

I'm thinking specifically of this phrase: "Since the fotonovela concept is familiar to Hispanics and Latinos, regardless of age", which is followed by a link to a piece in Studies in Latin American Popular Culture which, alas, I do not have access to. My concern here is that if we're speaking broadly about Latin America, my understanding was that most Latin American don't think of themselves as Latinos or Hispanics; these are North American terms reflecting North American ways of constructing race and identity. If we're speaking broadly about Latin America, it seems dubious to refer to the people in question as Hispanics or Latinos. My question, then, is: are we speaking broadly about Latin America? In the relevant "The fotonovela in health" section, it doesn't really specify, although the seventh link leads to a journal article (again, I don't have access to it), about the use of fotonovelas in medical education in California, where "Latino" would make more sense. I'm concerned that the Wiki article doesn't distinguish between, say, a Spanish-speaking population in San Bernardino county, vs., say, Quito, Ecuador, where the identity terms would likely be different.
