"Karmakar"s are NOT a category of Basak. I am a bengali, belong to Karmakar caste myself. Earlier Karmakars were blacksmiths. Now, obviously they are in different professions. Karmakar is a caste by itself. There is an association of Karmakars called "Bangiya Karmakar Mahasabha" presently at 2, Sethbagan Place, Calcutta 700030, Phone +91 33 25135799, Mobile +91 9432392128. Basak is not an ethnic group[edit]
Basak is not an ethnic group. It is a Bengali Hindu family name used by certain mercantile castes. Therefore, I'm removing the infobox. BengaliHindu (talk) 03:06, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
