I'm a bit concerned about calling them "invented" by Lee Sallows; he describes having come across the 45;21 English magic square in a book published in 1887 about a story told to have occured in the 6th century.
Russian Alphamagic squares[edit]
I have a textbook dated to the 1980s that (as a curiosity) brings up Russian alphamagic squares.... it's not a publicly accessible source, so can't be cited as I understand, but we shouldn't have an uncited "the first one was created in this year" floating in the article. 209.104.4.170 (talk) 22:20, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
