This section is here to provide answers to some questions that have been previously discussed on this talk page.
Note: This FAQ is only here to let people know that these points have previously been addressed, not to prevent any further discussion of these issues.
Q1: Why does this article state that the government of Afghanistan is the Islamic Emirate? Isn't that government unrecognized/illegitimate?
A1: Because reliable sources state that the Taliban have taken over. This determination is the result of a discussion among editors in this RfC. A new RfC (Request for Comment) will be required to change this. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia reflects reliable sources, which may not align with editors' own views on the matter. The threshold for inclusion of material in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Wikipedia is not a place to right great wrongs, such as by determining and advocating the rightful government of a country based on international law. Q2: The flag is wrong!
A2: Since the sole current government of Afghanistan is that of the Taliban, consensus in this RfC is to identify the current flag of Afghanistan as that of the Taliban. A new RfC (Request for Comment) will be required to change this. Q3: Why is Afghanistan listed as being in both Central and South Asia? It belongs to only one of those!
A3: Different reliable sources include Afghanistan in either one macroregion, or the other (or in both) depending on the field of study and the perspective taken. This has been discussed many times before. |

Not a single country recognize this flag as the flag of Afghanistan[edit]
Why is Wikipedia using this flag as the official flag of Afghanistan? Not a single country recognize this flag as the flag of Afghanistan. Why is Wikipedia different on these issues when it comes to Crimea. More countries recognize Crimea as part of Russia than recognize the current Afghan government. Yasarhossain07 (talk) 20:50, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- The flag isn't decided by other nation's recognition. The flags for other nations that are disputed are still shown such as Kurdistan, Northern Cyprus. etc which all have very few international recognition. Kayhan313 (talk) 18:09, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Siberian Tigers in Afghanistan?[edit]
Looking at the Goegraphy->Biodiversity section, there is a claim that Siberian Tigers are present in Afghanistan. This conflicts with the Siberian Tiger Wikipedia page that lists the present range as nowhere near Afghanistan. The single source used for this paragraph says, "The snow leopard, perhaps a rare Siberian Tiger, and brown bears occur…" I think it's a stretch to list Siberian Tigers without additional sources and/or substantial caveats. Alex.c.beveridge (talk) 20:55, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- I would agree with you the only source's I could find talking about tigers in Afghanistan were referencing the extinct Caspian Tiger once living there. Wilmanman77 (talk) 10:57, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Overall HDI of the country[edit]
There is a separate Wikipedia page about the HDI of regions in Afghanistan including the average HDI. This data is as of this year. Perhaps the HDI for Afghanistan should be updated. 84.49.127.81 (talk) 06:51, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Taraki death has incorrect month[edit]
Taraki death has incorrect month. He was assassinated in October 1979, not September (the Afghanistan article says September): Nur Muhammad Taraki Uráli001 (talk) 14:16, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Pls add farsi as our official language as well[edit]
