Contesting political parties

It seems to me that the section on "Contesting political parties" might now be getting long enough to justify/necessitate creating its own page as it is coming to dominate the overall article. Should this be done?--Discott (talk) 10:46, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

UPDATE: I have since moved the section. The new article's name is "List of political parties contesting the 2019 South African general election".

Provincial election results

Let's discuss the provincial election results and which pages to create before too many different things are done. In previous elections:

2009 and before store provincial results on the main election page.
2014 stores all the provincial results on a separate single page, List of provincial results of the South African general election, 2014. I discovered today that there also separate articles, such as 2014 Western Cape provincial election, but since they're not clearly linked they're not easily discoverable.

I am strongly in favour of all results being listed on the main election page, as is done with 1994 to 2009. I do not like the current 2014 article, where the results are not listed on the page, but all sorts of fluff such as trivial media quotes are.

I am not against ALSO (certainly not only) listing the results on separate individual pages if there is enough content to warrant a separate page.

So, I propose the following:

Restore the 2014 provincial election results to the main page. Where there are separate articles, link them. This requires the use of templates (recently a whole bunch of templates I created for 2004 were deleted on the basis that they were only used in one place, but these can easily be restored if used in multiple places - no need at present)
Similarly, for 2019, there are already some separate articles (e.g. 2019 Western Cape provincial election created by Lefcentreright, so we can begin to create templates for the results, which will then be used in two places. For any provinces that do not have a separate article, no need for a template. Greenman (talk) 19:33, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

UPDATE: The separate 2014 South African general election provincial legislature results article's content have been moved to the main article. We just now need to delete the separate article. Protection

As we come closer to the election and later during the vote counting, what sort of protection are we going to give this article to prevent vandalism and petty mischief without impeding the freedom to add to the article? Regards Paul Conlinp (talk) 09:52, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Infobox Parties

Shouldn't the infobox contain the FF+ party as well?
The top 4 parties are: 57.5%, 20.8%, 10.8%, 3.4%
The top 5 parties are: 57.5%, 20.8%, 10.8%, 3.4%, 2.4%
The top 6 parties are: 57.5%, 20.8%, 10.8%, 3.4%, 2.4%, 0.9%.
The top 5 parties presents a better cutoff (difference of 1.5% between last included party and first excluded party) than the top 4 parties (difference of 1.0%).

Incidents

I have removed the Wellington queue incident as it was very quickly debunked by the IEC and recieved no sustained publicity. We need to cover the "real" issues better such as the ink controversy, theft of IEC tents, demonstrations preventing voting, etc. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:05, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Any particular reason why we are using the wards used in local election rather than the voting districts the IEC uses for national and provincial elections for the map?--Duncanza (talk) 14:49, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

Because the VDs are so small in many cases that the map becomes hard to make out. And, I guess, because that's what we did in 2014. - htonl (talk) 20:30, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
