"Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" (Spanish for "If I Had Met You Before") is a song by Colombian singer Karol G. It was released on June 20, 2024, and it is also known as "the Bichota summer song".[1][2][3]
Background and release[edit]
On June 18, 2024, the singer announced through her social networks that she would release a new song, revealing its title, a sample of the song and the release date, scheduled for June 20.[4][5][6][7]
The artist had also been accused of plagiarizing the rhythm of the song "Addicted to You" by Shakira, since it can retain similar chords,[2] and "Despechá" by Rosalía, due to the almost same sound of the merengue with bursts of backwards mambo but it only lacks a more trotted or off-the-hook type of source.[8]
Music and lyrics[edit]
Musically, "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" is a merengue song with elements of mambo. Lyrically, the song reflects on the idea of missed opportunities and the wonders of what could have been if she had met her love interest sooner.[9]
Music video[edit]
The music video was released along with the single on June 20, 2024.[10] The video is an authentic ode to summer and was recorded in the Dominican Republic.[11] The video is set at a party in front of the sea and captures the festive spirit of a karaoke in a place that ends up becoming a gigantic dance party with people enjoying life and dancing on a street.[12]
