Rockhill is an unincorporated community in Collin County, located in the U.S. state of Texas.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 25 in 1990. It is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

History[edit]

It was one of the first towns in the county to be created, and it got a post office in 1854. To help the local farmers, J. J. Thompson constructed a gristmill and cotton gin there. Two churches were later added to the community. There were slightly over a hundred people living in Rock Hill by 1900. However, as the town was bypassed by the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway, the population fell off quickly. To be on the rail line, many businesses and inhabitants of Rock Hill relocated to nearby Prosper. The community's mail was routed through Frisco after the Rock Hill post office closed in 1904. There were never more than 100 people living at Rock Hill. Between 1945 and 1990, the population of this area was recorded as 25.[2]

Geography[edit]

Rockhill is located on Texas State Highway 289, 4 mi (6.4 km) north of Frisco in far-western Collin County. It is now located within the Frisco city limits.[2]

Education[edit]

Rockhill once had its own school.[2] Today the community is served by the Prosper Independent School District. It is zoned for Jim Spradley Elementary School, Bill Hayes Middle School, and Rock Hill High School.
