History[edit]

The monument was erected on December 25, 1984, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, and to bear in mind the glorious achievements of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the people of Tibet, Sichuan and Qinghai and the great sacrifices made in the construction of these two highways.[2] The monument was inscribed by Hu Yaobang, then General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party.[3] On October 7, 2019, it was announced as the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.[4]
