History[edit]

The detachment of General Velyaminov was moving through the mountains in the Carioc Gorge, inhabited by the Nathokuaj tribe. Traffic was slow due to the dense forest.[1]

On the 12th, the detachment continued to move. General Steibe and his adjutant followed the chain. The firefight intensified. The detachment of 100 people was so far away from the column that the bugle signals from the detachment could not be heard. The Highlanders appeared between the chain and the column. [2]

General Steibe led the company up to the height to take up position until the last pair of riflemen had passed. As they approached the village, the Circassians opened fire. The general was wounded in the chest. [3]

The paramedic bandaged the wound, built a stretcher and sent the general to the column. The company commander ordered the general to be escorted along with other wounded. [4]

The general said that he would like to see the emperor and then die peacefully. He added that his family would not be left without attention.[5]

During the military operations, Russian troops are forced to retreat. As a result of the collision, General von Steibe received a fatal wound
