The Inspector General of Police, abbreviated as IGP is the head of the Nigeria Police Force. He is the most senior officer in the police service. The pioneer IGP is Louis Edet and the current IGP is Kayode Egbetokun.APPEAL TO THE IGP

We have all worked hard and dedicated ourselves to becoming part of the Nigeria Police Force. I implore you to consider our efforts and the sacrifices we and our families have made to get to this point.
I understand your commitment to ensuring the progress and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, and I appreciate your dedication. However, I beg you to consider the qualified candidates who have earned their place on the shortlist. We are eager to begin our training and serve our country.
Please, I beg you in the name of God, to approve our shortlist and allow us to proceed to the police training school. We are ready to serve and contribute to the progress of the Nigeria Police Force under your leadership

The appointed officer is usually a serving officer of the Nigeria Police Force and are often recommended by the Police Service Commission to the President of Nigeria, who will send the name to the Senate for confirmation.
