Draft:Soma Holiday (Soma Holiday album)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soma Holiday is a 90's alternative rock band from San Francisco. Founders Chelle Amerson (vocals, keyboards) and Christopher Haynes (guitar) met in 1986, while studying at San Francisco State University. Later they recruited fellow students, Robert Sansom (bass) and Pejman Hakimi (drums). Soma Holiday released their eponymous debut album in 1990. Garnering a very loyal following and the support of KUSF, the band played extensively in their hometown of San Francisco from 1986 until 1992. The band used projections and lighting to create stunning visual effects for their live shows. During the recording of their 2nd album, the band began using electronic drums, eventually incorporating it into their live sound. For reasons that continue to be unclear, the 2nd album was never finished. The group continued to record, writing enough material for another album. The group disbanded in 1995, without releasing the 3rd album.

Each band member has gone on to pursue separate projects. Christopher Haynes went on to work with The Foo Fighters, Norah Jones and others, Chelle Amerson joined Action Jackson, Pejman Hakimi recorded with Sunset Republic, and Robert Sansom recorded solo material. The band has reconnected after 20 years to complete the recording of their 2nd and 3rd albums. A new EP, Microdose, is due to be released in the Autumn of 2024.
