General Hirokuni Muta (牟田 弘國, 29 August 1910 – 29 June 1987) was a Japanese military officer who served as a squadron commander in the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service during the Second World War. After the war he joined the newly formed Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) in 1954.
In the JASDF Muta held a variety of command positions including the serving as the branch’s sixth Chief of Staff before ending his career as the fourth Chairman of the Joint Staff Council of the Japan Self-Defense Force from 1967 to 1969.
