Aryal (also written as Arjel,Arjyal, Ariyal) is a Nepali surname. Aryal belongs to the Atreya gotra, as such they are believed to be the descendants of Sage Atreya.[1] In Hinduism, Varaha (Nepali: वराह) is the deity of the Aryal clan.[2] Aryals played an important role during unification of Nepal. Narayan Das Arjyal/Aryal was Dravya Shah's spiritual tutor, and helped him annex the Gorkha Kingdom. The responsibility to educate king Prithvi Narayan Shah was given to Mokchyeshwor Aryal and Bhanu Aryal. They were the Upadhyayas who worked in the palace as astrologers, where they were also known as Jyotishi or Jaisi. Aryal is a part of Thar ghar of Gorkha Kingdom.
