DescriptionMAX train on Yamhill St with Pioneer Place (1991) - Portland, Oregon.jpg
A two-car train of TriMet "Type 1" MAX cars (light rail vehicles) eastbound on SW Yamhill Street at 4th Avenue in downtown Portland (Oregon), leaving the Pioneer Place MAX station, which was opened in 1990, when Pioneer Place mall opened. TriMet's first series of light rail cars were built in the mid-1980s by Bombardier and entered service with the opening of the MAX system, in 1986. Until 1996, this was the only type of light rail car in TriMet's fleet, and this group was designated "Type 1" only after TriMet acquired a second, different type in the 1990s. In the distance, a "Vintage Trolley" can just be seen, making an early test or training run (before the start of Portland's Vintage Trolley service).
